Title du jour:

Ketchup ... I mean, CATCH UP...

2007-05-08 - 8:43 a.m.

Since I haven't blogged in FOREVER, I almost don't know where to start.

And, again, as soon as I start blogging here, my munchkins start screaming and (as always) expect ME to sort out whatever has set them off ... again.

Don't get me wrong, I love my little terrors (especially when they're sweet, which [thankfully] is a good deal of the time), but I'd like to be selfish and be able to ... oh ... finish a book. Or plan a Webelos meeting. Or design that website for our den (or update it) ... and not have to type one-handed in order to do it.
... Not that anyone really checks out the website.
And we only have two boys in our den right now ... so it's just a labor of love that I have this site up so (as it feels) the parents can ignore it.

But, yeah. Whatever.
I have been doing some reading. I've read Jennifer Lynn Barnes' first two books, Golden and Tattoo. Cute young adult fantasy, set in the real world. Pretty nice. I'm still waiting on Twilight, but I really enjoyed New Moon by Stephenie Meyer (who's LDS, which tickles me a bit. It's nice to have some good LDS fiction authors ... Shannon Hale is the other up-and-coming that I've really enjoyed. Very good writing from both Hale and Meyer. I say that even before I had figured out that they're in the Church).

I finished the (what... how many now?) seventh (I think) book in the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith -- The Good Husband of Zebra Drive. As always, I enjoy the characters and the plot. The big mystery to be solved in this volume was rather predictable (if you're at all familiar with urban legends), which took a little of the joy out of reading for me (as opposed to Michael, who loves to predict and be right. I guess I just like surprises). Still, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

There's a movie coming out this summer which I HAVE to see: "Stardust." It's based on a Neil Gaiman novel (I've really liked his Sandman series of graphic novels ... and have read most of his work for younger readers -- like Coraline, which is being made into a movie ... with a soundtrack by THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS!!!!), but I haven't read much of his novels for adults. I should change that.

Like while I was pregnant and decided that since I had never read Stephen King (except for one novel ... which I didn't really find frightening), that I would change that. I read Four Before Midnight, Everything's Eventual, and The Shining.
I got through those in a few days ... maybe two weeks. Most of it was suspenseful ... only one story really made me break out in gooseflesh ("1409" from Everything's Eventual). I rather liked the bit of creep factor in "The Sun Dog" and I thought the plot in "The Langoliers," was very compelling.

Still, I should read more Neil Gaiman.

Zo's started a habit of stripping down out of everything she's wearing during the night or naptimes. It annoys me. Especially the one time when she had smeared her poop over the crib, into her brother's hair, all over the white sheet ... It was not a good day. Nope.

I got to chat with my cousin Sarah for a goodly amount of time yesterday. I had called to wish her brother a happy birthday, but he was at work and she was home alone (since she's visiting from out of state). It was so good to chat wtih her. I start to forget how much I miss her ... then *BAM!* I remember. It's not a bad thing to miss a person who was one of your best friends growing up.

I bought myself the GBA Disney Princess:Royal Adventure game last week. Finished it in, like, three hours. It was cute. The graphics weren't too shabby, either. It's nice that Michael got me my Nintendo DS for Christmas. The DS games are kinda expensive ... but the Game Boy Advance ones (which I can also play on it) are lots cheaper. Sometimes half the price. There are some games that are avaliable through both platforms ... but I'd really prefer to play the DS one (for one thing, you get two tiny screens of graphic-goodness!). Then there are some games not avaliable on the DS platform (like, say, DISNEY PRINCESSES), so yeah.

That was a tangent.

Oh, have you watched the stuff at Brotherhood 2.0? Yeah, I'm kinda addicted. I've only seen the first week and this last week ... I'll be working at catching up on all that time in between ... while still preeing that ERIC D. SNIDER made me laugh. ME. Personally. Just me.

Because he rocks like that. He's my local-ish celebrity crush.
And Michael has no problems with this.
(Which is yet ANOTHER reason why I love this man. Michael. Even though I completely adore Eric, too.)
(And look!! I've started calling him "Eric"!! It used to ALWAYS be "Eric D. Snider". And now it's not.)
(SO. Strange.)

So ... I'm setting up an appointment to get bras. That fit. Won't that be nice?

And I still need to finsih the laundry (I don't think I like the waterlily and jasmine-scented Tide. The lavender and vanilla would cover any weird clothes-smells ... this one doesn't. So I'm thinking of rewashing one or two loads ... since they smell funny. And I don't like that. Since it's wasteful and everything.)
(Or, I suppose, it could have something to do with the fact that the basket of clothes has been sitting around the whole weekend ... but, if I think back, I think it smelled funny when I pulled it out of the dryer ... so maybe that doesn't have anything to do with the reason that it smells funky.)
(Like the smell is full of funk. And not the cool kind. This is not the funk that you'd put on a CD and sell it in commercials that makes me want to buy it. "Jungle Boogie", "Carwash", "Kung Fu Fighting" ... those are the GOOD kind of funk.)
(This is NOT.)
(At ALL.)

I think I've found my addiction.
I'm addicted to typing in parentheses.
Why couldn't it be something normal?
*sigh*

So ... I hope that this long, full-of-tangetical-ness, and rambling post mas made up for me not posting AT ALL for the longest time ...
(Now I have Billy Joel stuck in my head.)
(Crap!! I'm doing it again!!!!)
